"Four is what...?" (19) [„Le temps detruit tout”]

The film's great triumph is pushing Euro-art cinema to the very sickest kind of (s)exploitation movie. And not just for the rape scene, but for plenty of other little bits like that scene early on with the fire extinguisher... One of just a couple times in my life that I've actually had to convince myself that "It's just a movie. They didn't really do that".

I'd also point out that the whole structure of the film is based on the viewer wanting desperately to pretend that the nasty stuff didn't happen, and Noé basically telling us that no, no matter how much we want to focus on the nice sweet things in life, the most unspeakable horrors are always somewhere waiting. So it's not just a "fuck you" to the audience in general, it's a very specific "fuck you" to people exactly like you, and this is a view that I fully salute and support, by the way.

Stop chasing shadows, just enjoy the ride!

„A dangerous creation when you fail the test of time”

OMD. Acronim pentru Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Un fel de New Order ai Liverpoolului. Se ştie: New Order, ăia care au deschis balul, trupă clădită pe osatura Joy Divsion, vin din Manchester, dovadă că între oraşele astea rivalitatea nu a fost şi nu e doar fotbalistică (nu intru în amănunte, 24 Hour Party People al lui Winterbottom e bibliografia ideală pentru cei interesaţi).

Pandora's Box (It's a Long, Long, Way). Al doilea single (primul a fost Sailing on the Seven Seas) de pe - probabil - unul din cele mai bune albume OMD: Sugar Tax (1991). Un an oarecum crucial în evoluţia subsemnatului. Nu la fel ca '93, dar pe-acolo.

Pandora's Box. Clasic „mut” din 1928. De G.W. Pabst. Cu Louise Brooks. As Lulu.

Atât melodia, dar mai ales videoclipul, sunt un omagiu. Actriţei, filmului şi bunului simţ (ca paradox) în general. Enjoy!

Wiki says: Serendipity is used as a sociological method in Anselm L. Strauss' and Barney G. Glaser's Grounded Theory, building on ideas by sociologist Robert K. Merton, who in Social Theory and Social Structure (1949) referred to the "serendipity pattern" as the fairly common experience of observing an unanticipated, anomalous and strategic datum which becomes the occasion for developing a new theory or for extending an existing theory. Robert K. Merton also coauthored (with Elinor Barber) The Travels and Adventures of Serendipity which traces the origins and uses of the word "serendipity" since it was coined. The book is "a study in sociological semantics and the sociology of science", as the subtitle of the book declares. It further develops the idea of serendipity as scientific "method" (as juxtaposed with purposeful discovery by experiment or retrospective prophecy).
