José Celestino Campusano: What is video 360 is a format and an area that is about to be developed. One of the most attractive things about it is that it cannot be built only with the reminiscences or influence of traditional cinema. It has quite its own codes in its composition, it affects the emotional part of the spectator from another place and, starting from there, there is a lot to discover. The best way is to put the resources in crisis, either with an economical 360 camera or with anything else. If anyone thought there was a moment to take risks and make mistakes in everything that is necessary, this is it. There is little content, and it seems to me that the best thing to do is to put a head start on the realization. No matter the mistakes, that does not stop a product from having its space today, because we are discovering it.
CdelNO: It seems interesting that you have to think of a whole scene to go from one shot to the next, that the cuts are not so abrupt for those who are experiencing it...
JC: There is a whole series of codes in the composition, which once you take them into account, it flows very well. Gradually, the spectator, who would be more of an explorer than a spectator, ends up inserted in the plot, which is what we are looking for.
CdelNO: What do you think are the difficulties that this technology still brings?
JC: In any case, the 360 still has obstacles to overcome. One is the focus: in general, everything that is in close proximity is in focus, because it is a wide angle. When there is a selective focus, or when the colors are more intense, it will be an improvement. Another thing is that we see a black border: we see an ovoid shape through which we discover precisely the events, but that is crowned by a black border. When that is gone, well, there we will have a more convincing aesthetic. And something I said before: being a wide angle, the information is dispersed or dissipated very quickly. Everything that is twice as far from the focus of interest seems to be much further away, which is not the case in other cinema. That's why I say that there are codes of our own, it's interesting to discover them.
