Combinație năucitoare de western existențialist și road movie, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones la a doua încălecare în scaunul de regizor) poate sta oricând alături de producţii clasice semnate Peckinpah, Schatzberg sau Anthony Mann. Contribuie la asta scenariul lui Arriaga (comparabil valoric cu Amores Perros) şi calofilia imaginii (Chris Menges), calibrată perfect pe ritmul interior al poveştii. Autor, desigur TLJ, care deţine şi rolul principal, precedându-l magistral pe Daniel Day Lewis în termeni de personalitate accentuată şi psihism feroce. Altfel spus, before there will be blood, there was poetic justice.
